Passengers on a Guardian Angel bus had a narrow escape when the bus caught fire along Waiyaki Way near Gitaru Interchange on Sunday morning.
The bus was heading towards Nairobi when smoke started coming from the engine, and within moments, flames engulfed the vehicle.
Luckily, the bus driver managed to stop in time, and passengers quickly rushed out of the bus. No one was reported injured, but the incident caused panic among the passengers who feared for their lives.
One of the passengers, Mary Wanjiru, said, “It was so scary. The bus was moving fine, then suddenly we started seeing smoke.
Before we knew it, flames were everywhere. We ran out so fast. Thank God no one was hurt.”
Another passenger, John Kamau, who was sitting near the back of the bus, shared his experience, saying, “The smoke came so fast. People were shouting and rushing out.
It was a miracle we all managed to get out alive. The fire was spreading so quickly, it felt like seconds before it was out of control.”
Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, and they managed to put out the fire. Traffic on Waiyaki Way was disrupted for several hours as emergency services handled the situation.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the Guardian Angel bus company has promised to cooperate with authorities and ensure their vehicles are thoroughly inspected.
As a result of the fire, passengers are reminded to stay alert during their travels, and it’s always a good idea to know the nearest exit in case of emergencies.
