Kenyan comedian Dr. Ofweneke recently shared a painful story from his early days. When his girlfriend left him because he was broke.
At the time, Ofweneke was just starting in comedy, struggling to make ends meet. During a church crossover service, his girlfriend, Joy, broke up with him, saying she couldn’t stay with a man who had no money.
He remembered earning only KSh 250 from his first comedy show. Despite his small earnings, he spent KSh 150 to buy Joy a bracelet as a token of his love. But instead of appreciating the gesture, she told him she couldn’t be with someone who wasn’t financially stable.
The rejection hurt him deeply, especially since it happened in church. A place where people usually seek hope and encouragement.
Now a successful comedian, Ofweneke used his story to encourage women to support men who are still working towards their dreams. He believes many men start with nothing but can achieve greatness if given time and belief.
“Success doesn’t happen overnight,” he said. “If Joy had waited, she would have enjoyed the life I have now.”
His story has inspired many online, with fans praising his resilience. Ofweneke’s journey proves that humble beginnings don’t determine one’s future.
To young men facing rejection, he says: “Don’t give up. Sometimes, setbacks prepare you for greater success.”
His message is, love, patience, and self-belief can turn struggles into triumph.
