A disturbing revelation has emerged from a 28-year-old man arrested in connection with the gruesome killing of Bomet entrepreneur Eva Rachel Chepkemoi Ruto.
Wesley Koech was apprehended after allegedly admitting to fatally stabbing the 48-year-old mother and grandmother, whose body was discovered inside her home on March 25, 2025.
In court, Koech claimed he had been in a romantic relationship with Ruto, only to later find out she had other partners.
Overwhelmed by rage, he confessed that he lost control during a confrontation that turned deadly.
Detectives believe the murder followed intense arguments between the two.
The discovery of Ruto’s body sent shockwaves through the community, sparking conversations about emotional violence and betrayal.
Forensic officers recovered several key pieces of evidence at the scene, including used condoms near her bed hinting at possible assault before the killing.
With Koech’s cooperation, police also retrieved a blood-stained towel, a blade believed to be the murder weapon, and what is thought to be Ruto’s wedding ring.
Koech was later traced and arrested in Kericho. He has since been charged with murder and is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation.
Local residents and leaders have strongly condemned the incident, calling for quick justice and improved measures to address gender-based violence.
The tragedy has stirred public concern over how emotional entanglements can spiral into acts of extreme violence.
Authorities continue to investigate and are urging anyone with relevant information to step forward.
