Some hours ago Pastor Nganga of the Neno Evangelism Center found himself at the center of controversy after a video surfaced showing him slapping an elderly man who had fallen asleep during a sermon. The clip quickly went viral, drawing widespread condemnation from Kenyans who felt that the pastor’s actions were both inappropriate and disrespectful.
In response to the backlash, Pastor Nganga addressed his congregation during a subsequent sermon. His remarks were direct and unapologetic. He began by acknowledging the criticism surrounding the video, where he noted, “I heard people saying that I am beating people in my church.” However, rather than expressing remorse, he doubled down on his stance.
Nganga started by ordered a man who was walking in church to sit down, reinforcing his authority within the church. He cited his actions as part of a larger moral framework, claiming he was emulating Jesus Christ, who according to him also disciplined those who misbehaved within sacred spaces. “I will beat whoever misbehaves in church,” he declared, making it clear that he views physical correction as a legitimate form of discipline.
Nganga’s comments have ignited a heated debate among his followers and critics alike. Supporters argue that he is maintaining order and discipline within the church, while detractors accuse him of resorting to violence and intimidation. The pastor concluded his sermon with a stern warning, stating that he might even expel anyone who continues to misbehave.
