Since her arrest on March 1, 2022, Wangeci has been detained at Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail, following the discovery of 4.2 kilograms of cocaine in her luggage.According to her nephew, Crispas Muturi, Wangeci had previously visited India multiple times without encountering any legal issues.
However, her most recent trip turned into nightmare, as outlined in Paul Walker’s records. Jane Mboi, her sister, recalled the last time she saw Wangeci, just two days before her arrest.
Wangeci had mentioned she was going to see her boyfriend, but offered no further details.
Mboi revealed that she had only seen this supposed boyfriend once through a video call, and that Wangeci had never disclosed the purpose of her trip to India.
When one of Wangeci’s sisters raised concerns about her frequent travels, Wangeci claimed she was going to India on business to buy auto parts.
Most of the family, except for one sibling, attended a birthday party in late February 2022, where Wangeci braided her sister’s hair.
That would be their last encounter before her arrest. Afterward, Mboi learned from Wangeci’s children that their mother had traveled overseas and had asked a relative to pick up her son.
Muturi explained that a man and a piece of luggage, sent by Wangeci, had been delivered to him for the trip to India. After passing through security checks at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), they were singled out upon arrival in India.
Additional inspections of the luggage led to the discovery of drugs. The family, despite their efforts, has been unsuccessful in securing her release but continues to send support.
They are now urging the Kenyan government to offer immediate legal assistance.
