A sombre mood engulfed Milimani area in Nyatike Sub-county in Migori after a Form Two student at Kadika Girls reportedly hanged herself.
Reports indicate that the 17-year-old girl herself on tree, a short distance from their home, after her mother inquired about her first term performance.
The mother said that as a norm, she asked her to produce the report card because they had closed the school on Wednesday.
It is reported that she resisted showing her results because she performed dismally as compared to her previous exams. She later disappeared, only for her body to be found hanging from a tree on Thursday morning.
The family is yet to come to terms with what they described as the untimely death of a quiet, hardworking, jovial and respectful girl.
Police transferred the body to the local morgue awaiting an autopsy even as they carry on with investigations into the suicide.
The suicide comes in the backdrop of a report raising concerns over the high number of suicide cases in the country.
