President William Ruto continued his tour of the Mt. Kenya region, commissioning various development projects aimed at uplifting the area’s economy. On his second day, the Head of State visited Maua town in Meru County, where he was accompanied by his new Deputy President, Kithure Kindiki.During his address, President Ruto tackled key issues affecting residents, particularly the miraa trade, which is the region’s economic backbone. He acknowledged the challenges farmers face, including the presence of cartels that exploit growers and manipulate the market.

The President assured farmers that his administration would take decisive action against these cartels to ensure fair pricing and better market access for their produce.

As the President invited Deputy President Kindiki to address the crowd, the atmosphere in Maua turned electric. Cheers and ululations filled the air as residents enthusiastically welcomed Kindiki, who hails from neighboring Tharaka Nithi County.

The cheers made the president halt his speech prematurely and give chance to Kindiki to address the crowd.

The warm reception underscored his deep-rooted connection to the Mt. Kenya region, signaling strong support for the new Deputy President.
