The air crackled with anticipation as Deputy President Kithure Kindiki introduced Kimani Ichung’wa, the National Assembly Majority Leader, to the crowd in Laikipia.
The cheers that erupted as Ichung’wa took the stage were deafening, a testament to his popularity in the region.
In his speech, the Kikuyu member of parliament asked the Laikipia people to fully rally behind William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza government.
It was during Ruto’s week-long tour of the Mt Kenya region, a crucial area for the upcoming elections.
The crowd was clearly excited to hear from Ichung’wa, a key figure in the ruling party.
His speech was met with rapturous applause, with many in the audience chanting his name.
The scene was a stark contrast to the absence of some other prominent figures in the region.
Former Deputy President Gachagua’s allies, Kiambu Senator Karuga Thangwa, former Women Representative Cate Waruguru and Nyeri County Governor Muhahi Kahiga, skipped the Mt Kenya tour.
