Former Citizen TV presenter Kimani Mbugua was recently spotted collecting dirt in Makongeni Phase 4, Thika, which led to his arrest on March 30, 2025.
This incident raised concerns about his well-being, as he had previously struggled with mental health issues and substance abuse.
After reports surfaced that Mbugua had relapsed and returned to the streets, a team was dispatched to locate him.
They found him in the Makongeni estate in Thika, Kiambu County. Following his discovery, he was taken to the office of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, where officials ensured he received proper care.
Mbugua was provided with new clothing and given the opportunity to take a shower, which was a much-needed refreshment for him.
During his time at Sonko’s office, the former governor had a one-on-one conversation with Mbugua. Sonko expressed his concern for Mbugua’s health and offered him a final chance to get the help he needs.
This meeting came just months after Mbugua was released from a rehabilitation center in Mombasa, where he had been receiving treatment for his mental health issues, including bipolar disorder.
In a related development, Sonko also spoke with Eunice Omollo, another individual who had been in the same rehabilitation program as Mbugua.
Omollo has made significant progress since her discharge and has secured a job at K24, where she has already produced two episodes focusing on the experiences of bipolar patients.
Sonko praised her for her achievements and the positive work she is doing to raise awareness about mental health.
