Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is at the center of a political storm, with fresh reports indicating that 14 criminal charges have been prepared against him.

These charges, allegedly orchestrated by state operatives, are said to be part of a broader strategy to prevent him from entering the 2027 presidential race.

According to sources, the charges will be filed the moment Matiang’i formally declares his candidacy. The Kenya Kwanza administration is reportedly behind the move, seeking to block his political ambitions

List of Possible Charges:

1. Abuse of office – Alleged misuse of power while serving as Interior CS.

2. Money laundering – Accusations of financial irregularities linked to government projects.

3. Financial misconduct – Alleged corruption in the failed Huduma Namba initiative.

4. Extrajudicial killings – Claims of state-sponsored executions under his watch.

5. Police brutality – Accusations of excessive force used by security agencies.

6. Illegal procurement deals – Suspected irregular tenders during his tenure.

7. Embezzlement of public funds – Misuse of government resources.

8. Obstruction of justice – Allegations of interfering with investigations.

9. Unlawful detention of individuals – Claims of illegal arrests.

10. Human rights violations – Reports of intimidation and suppression of protests.

11. Election-related misconduct – Accusations of meddling in past elections.

12. Tax evasion – Alleged failure to comply with tax regulations.

13. Fraudulent allocation of land – Irregular land deals linked to his office.

14. Misuse of state intelligence – Accusations of politically motivated surveillance.

Matiang’i, a key figure in former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, has kept a low political profile since the 2022 elections.

However, speculation about his possible bid under the opposition Azimio coalition has reportedly unsettled the ruling government.

Political analysts argue that these charges are part of a broader scheme to weaken opposition figures before the 2027 elections.

Legal experts and opposition leaders have criticized the move, calling it a politically motivated attack rather than a genuine pursuit of justice.
