Gachagua political Alig

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is on a mission to reshape the political landscape of Mount Kenya by targeting MPs who backed his impeachment last November.

In what is being described as a calculated revenge campaign, Gachagua has been rallying behind political opponents of these lawmakers, urging residents to vote them out in the 2027 elections.

Gachagua is strategically endorsing candidates to challenge the incumbents, with some high-profile names already in play:

Murang’a County: Wambui Nyutu, a former NCIC commissioner, has been endorsed to challenge Woman Representative Betty Maina.

Mathira Constituency: Efforts are underway to unseat MP Eric Wamumbi, with Gachagua rallying behind potential challengers. Wamumbi, once an ally of Gachagua, is now a fierce critic.

Nyeri Town Constituency: Former MP Ngunjiri Wambugu is being positioned to replace the incumbent, Duncan Mathenge.

Othaya Constituency: Lawyer Patrick Ngunjiri, also known as Wakili wa Mashinani, is set to challenge Wambugu Wainaina.

Nyandarua County: Ngima Wamae is being prepped to run against Woman Representative Faith Gitau.

Kasarani Constituency: Peter Wambugu, popularly known as Pemwa, is Gachagua’s pick to take on Ronald Karauri.

Laikipia County: Purity Kendi is being lined up to challenge Woman Representative Jane Kagiri.

Kiambu County: Mercy Nungari, who contested unsuccessfully in 2022, could face Woman Representative Ann Wamuratha.

Gachagua is also reportedly in talks with political heavyweights like former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi, ex-Kiambu MP Jude Njomo, and Kabinga Wa Thayu, aiming to consolidate his influence across the region.

Labeling their actions as betrayal, Gachagua has been vocal in his condemnation of the MPs, calling on voters to reject them.

“Even if they come here guarded by state functionaries, they are still unwanted,” he declared during a rally in Tetu, Nyeri County.

His campaign has reportedly stirred resistance against some sitting MPs, with claims that they now face hostility in their constituencies.
