After Stella Atambo moved to court to prevent her from being prosecuted, the conflict between the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and Thika Chief Magistrate Stella Atambo is set to get worse this week.
EACC is threatening to release CCTV footage of Atambo engaging in corruption, according to sources. EACC officials raided her residence and seized Ksh 2 million stuffed in a laptop bag, money believed to be proceeds of graft.
Atambo, who has been in the judiciary for a long time, insisted that she is not guilty and promised to challenge the anti-graft agency’s action. She questioned the method by which the search warrant was obtained through her lawyers. Atambo stated that the money belongs to her husband and insisted that the commission should return the cash to its rightful owner.
The anti-corruption agency has launched a probe into multiple complaints alleging that Atambo demands bribes from accused persons in criminal cases in exchange for favorable ruling.
