Super Metro

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the operator license of Super Metro Limited, citing non-compliance with Public Service Vehicles (PSV) Regulations, 2014. This move affects one of Nairobi’s most popular matatu SACCOs, which serves thousands of commuters daily.

In its latest enforcement action, NTSA directed traffic police to impound all Super Metro vehicles operating despite the suspension. The transport regulator stated that a recent compliance audit revealed multiple violations within the SACCO’s fleet. Out of 523 vehicles, 15 had expired inspection certificates, while eight lacked valid Road Service Licenses (RSL). Additionally, several drivers were found to be unqualified, posing a significant safety risk to passengers.

The suspension has caused a stir among daily commuters who rely on Super Metro’s services for reliable and organized public transport. With the license revoked, passengers may have to seek alternative means of transport until the SACCO meets regulatory requirements.

Super Metro has built a reputation for offering disciplined and customer-friendly services, making it one of the most preferred matatu operators in Nairobi. However, this latest development puts the company under pressure to swiftly address compliance issues to restore operations.

NTSA’s decision aligns with its ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and ensure that PSV operators adhere to set guidelines. In recent months, the regulator has intensified crackdowns on non-compliant operators to reduce road accidents and improve service delivery in the transport sector.
