Kitengela residents took to the streets on Sunday, chanting slogans against President William Ruto, demanding his resignation. The protesters, led by Nyandarua Senator John Methu, sang the popular song “Yote Yawezekana Bila Ruto” as they marched through the town.
The demonstration, which attracted hundreds of residents, was fueled by frustrations over the rising cost of living, high taxes, and what they termed as failed government promises. The angry crowd chanted “Ruto Must Go!” as they waved placards and banners calling for change.
Speaking during the protest, Senator Methu joined in the chants, showing his support for the residents’ concerns. He accused the Kenya Kwanza government of neglecting the needs of ordinary citizens. “The people are tired! The cost of living is unbearable, and yet the government is not listening,” he said.
Residents expressed their frustrations, saying they are struggling to afford food, rent, and other basic needs. “We voted for change, but instead, life has become harder. We want leadership that cares for the common mwananchi,” one protester said.
The demonstration in Kitengela is part of growing nationwide dissatisfaction with the government. Similar protests have been witnessed in other parts of the country as Kenyans demand action on economic challenges.
Police monitored the protest but did not interfere as the residents marched peacefully. The government is yet to respond to the demands raised by the protesters. However, political tensions continue to rise as more voices call for leadership accountability.
