Ugandan Member of Parliament Richard Kaijuka has called on President Yoweri Museveni to consult with the nation’s elder statesmen, particularly those over the age of 75, for their invaluable counsel on pressing national matters. Kaijuka emphasized that these senior leaders, who have witnessed Uganda’s transformative journey over the years, possess a wealth of knowledge and patriotism that could provide the President with honest and insightful perspectives.

In his statement, Kaijuka explained that these elders are not motivated by the desire for political positions or rewards, but instead, their advice stems from a deep commitment to Uganda’s values and long-term goals. Having lived through the struggles and triumphs of Uganda’s independence and subsequent growth, these individuals understand the sacrifices made for the country’s progress and are driven by a sense of duty to safeguard the nation’s future.

The MP further highlighted that, while Uganda has made significant strides under President Museveni’s leadership, the wisdom of those who have dedicated their lives to the country could help steer national policies and decisions in a more balanced and thoughtful direction. According to Kaijuka, these elders have a unique ability to offer selfless guidance, unclouded by personal ambition, and rooted in a desire to maintain the integrity and strength of Uganda’s values.

Kaijuka’s call comes at a time when many Ugandans are urging for more inclusive governance that incorporates diverse voices, including those of experienced and seasoned leaders. He believes that by engaging with these individuals, President Museveni can ensure that his decisions are not only pragmatic but also deeply connected to Uganda’s foundational principles and the aspirations of its people.

As the nation moves forward, Kaijuka’s plea underscores the importance of leveraging the wisdom of Uganda’s elders to navigate complex national issues with honesty and patriotism.
