For the one decade that he has been in the murky world of politics, Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi has quickly risen to become a key ally of the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Elected on an ODM party ticket in 2017, Atandi trounced the incumbent Omondi Muluan who was defending his seat on a Wiper party ticket. And from there, he has never looked back.

Amid the purge by President William Ruto on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allies in the National Assembly and in the Senate, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro became one of the biggest casualties as he was removed as chairperson of the powerful Budget and appropriations commitee.

And Atandi became the biggest beneficiary after being appointed as the new chairperson of the committee which is at the heart of President William Ruto’s government.

As Dr Ruto and Raila aim to cement their relationship in the broad-based government, it’s Atandi’s time to shine.
