Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared that he does not require endorsement from any political figure to secure the presidency in 2027. Kalonzo affirmed his determination to take the top seat, stating that the position is open for contest and he stands a better chance of winning.
Speaking at Kamuwongo Catholic Church in Kyuso, Mwingi North, Kitui County, on March 3, Kalonzo assured his supporters that he is prepared to lead the country.
The former Vice President dismissed suggestions that he should wait for an endorsement, emphasizing that he will pursue the presidency with full determination.
Kalonzo urged President William Ruto to prepare for a transition at the end of his first term. He accused Ruto of using divisive tactics, alleging that attacks on religious institutions were meant to silence critics exposing corruption within the government.
The Wiper leader also criticized the government’s handling of public debt repayment and accused top officials of illegally grabbing land belonging to the Kenya Defence Forces.
Additionally, Kalonzo linked Ruto’s administration to the ongoing conflict in South Sudan, claiming that Kenya’s involvement has raised concerns within the international community.
Kalonzo called on farmers in Ukambani to reject the government’s mass livestock vaccination program, alleging that it is a fraudulent scheme designed to exploit them.
Kalonzo condemned Ruto’s remarks that Kamba people are better known for green gram (ndengu) farming rather than livestock keeping, terming the statement disrespectful.
The stalled Kitui-Kibwezi-Migwani-Mbondoni road was another point of criticism, with Kalonzo arguing that the government has neglected the project despite promises to complete it.
Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna, who arrived at the church mid-speech, was faulted for supporting Ruto’s administration in exchange for unfulfilled promises on infrastructure development.
Meanwhile, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, speaking in Machakos after attending a church service at Gospel Confirmation Centre on the same day, expressed confidence in an alliance between the Mt. Kenya region and the Kamba community. Gachagua stated that their unity would be instrumental in securing victory in the first round of the 2027 elections.
Gachagua accused President Ruto of orchestrating his removal from office but maintained that he had managed to unite key political figures from Mt. Kenya within the Kenya Kwanza government.
The former Deputy President dismissed Raila Odinga’s potential influence in the upcoming election, asserting that Ruto’s survival in politics largely depends on the ODM leader’s support.
The impeachment motion against Gachagua, tabled by Kibwezi MP Mwengi Mutuse, was also criticized. Gachagua accused Mutuse of attempting to create divisions between the Mt. Kenya and Ukambani regions, warning that their alliance remains strong. He reiterated that the ultimate goal of the political partnership is to remove Ruto from power in 2027.
The growing political realignments signal an intense battle ahead as leaders position themselves for the next general election.
