In an astonishing turn of events, a woman believed to have died three years ago has been found alive, leaving her family and community in disbelief.
Emily Musonda’s story is one of resilience, loss, and an unexpected reunion.
In 2022 she set out from her home in Mporokoso for a visit to her uncle but never arrived.
Her disappearance led to an exhaustive search, but when no trace of her was found, her family mourned her as deceased, even holding a burial ceremony in her honour.
Unbeknownst to them, Musonda had survived a devastating road accident that left her critically injured and with no memory of who she was.
She was taken to Ndola Teaching Hospital, where medical staff provided care for three years.
Due to the severity of her injuries, doctors were forced to amputate her right leg.
As she slowly recovered the only clue she could recall about her identity was the name “Musonda” leaving her without a clear way to reconnect with her past.
Despite her circumstances Musonda remained strong willed and cheerful earning the affection of hospital staff who fondly nicknamed her “Ba Mulamu.” Efforts to identify her proved fruitless until fate intervened.
A man visiting the hospital recognized her and took a photo which he sent to his family in Mporokoso.
The moment her brother saw the image he knew his sister was alive.
Overcome with emotion Musonda’s family rushed to Ndola where they finally embraced the sister they thought was lost forever.
Tears flowed as they took in the reality of her survival and the hardships she had endured.
Now as she embarks on a new chapter Musonda’s journey stands as a powerful testament to the endurance of hope and the kindness of strangers who became her second family.
