Drama unfolded at JCC Mombasa as the pastor rushed to finish the morning sermon before the expected arrival of President William Ruto. The congregation was abuzz with anticipation, but the president’s late entry prompted him to later explain the circumstances surrounding his absence.
Speaking at a family service later that day, Ruto revealed he was occupied with tourism-related responsibilities due to the arrival of the MS Norwegian Dawn cruise ship. Despite his efforts to attend the morning service, including sending a message to Bishop Wilfred Lai the night before, Ruto faced delays. He arrived at 11 AM, only to learn that the morning service had concluded.
However, he was pleased to return for the 3:30 PM family service, where he expressed his gratitude for the spiritual insights shared during the sermon. Ruto emphasized the significance of the MS Norwegian Dawn, the first cruise ship to dock in Mombasa this year, which brought over 2,000 tourists from 54 nationalities. He noted that around 800 guests had already embarked on tours to Amboseli and other attractions, showcasing Kenya as a vibrant tourism destination. Ruto’s remarks underscored the importance of tourism in bolstering the local economy.
