As Kenyans take to social media to express their condolences to former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati, an old video has resurfaced, rekindling memories of the dramatic 2017 election saga at the Supreme Court of Kenya.

The widely shared clip features a passionate Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) woman furiously warning Chebukati against proceeding with the contentious election rerun.

In the video, the woman, who identifies herself as Adhiambo, appears visibly agitated, gesturing emphatically as she strongly opposes holding the repeat election on a day sacred to SDA believers.

Speaking with conviction, she insists that she and her fellow worshippers would not participate in the vote, emphasizing that she had already observed a poor voter turnout.

“Sasa Chebukati, mtu ya Seventh Day hapana jaribu, tafadhali, tafadhali, hapana jaribu Kenya, hapana weka kwa shimo,” she passionately exclaims in her heated protest.

This follows the highly contested political events of the 2017 election. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) initially announced Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner with 54.3% of the vote, while Raila Odinga secured 44.7%.

However, after Odinga challenged the results in court, the Supreme Court of Kenya delivered a historic ruling on September 1, nullifying the presidential election due to what it described as “irregularities and illegalities.”
