A key component of the Kenya Kwanza Administration’s agenda for economic transformation is access to high-quality, reasonably priced healthcare. Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is one of the most important interventions being pursued to ensure a healthy and productive population, as Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently underlined.
With 19.5 million citizens already registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA), notable progress has been made thus far. In order to achieve UHC, the National and County Governments are dedicated to making sure that all Kenyans have access to health insurance.
Through focused policy and administrative actions, the administration is tackling new issues in the implementation of Taifa Care, the flagship health insurance program. The goal of these initiatives is to increase health institutions’ ability to provide necessary services in a sustainable manner.
The Ministry of Health is also examining the Means Testing Tool to make sure it is impartial and accurate, working with pertinent partners. In order to improve the tool and make sure it serves the needs of all Kenyans, input from stakeholders and citizens has been integrated over the last five months.
The National and County Governments Health Summit was recently held at the Official Residence in Karen to further advance the implementation of UHC. Principal Secretaries, Governors under the leadership of Council of Governors Chairman Ahmed Abdullahi, members of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors, and Health Cabinet Secretary Dr.
Deborah Barasa were among the important participants in the summit. In order to guarantee the successful implementation of UHC, the meeting’s main objectives were to review progress, resolve bottlenecks, and plan the future.
The administration’s commitment to healthcare as a driver of economic growth was reaffirmed by Deputy President Gachagua. The government hopes to improve productivity, promote inclusive development, and lessen the financial burden of healthcare on households by giving priority to UHC.
The Kenya Kwanza Administration’s emphasis on healthcare demonstrates its conviction that a robust economy is built on a healthy populace.
