Chaos erupted in the National Assembly as Azimio MPs attempted to occupy the majority side of the House. This followed a High Court ruling last week declaring Azimio as the majority coalition, stripping Kenya Kwanza of the position.
During the first sitting after recess, tensions flared as some Azimio lawmakers insisted on sitting in the majority section, leading to a standoff. Speaker Moses Wetang’ula struggled to maintain order as both sides engaged in heated exchanges.
Kenya Kwanza MPs opposed the move, arguing that the ruling did not automatically grant Azimio the majority position without further parliamentary procedures. However, Azimio members insisted they had the right to assume their new status immediately.
Speaker Wetang’ula urged MPs to remain orderly, emphasizing that the matter needed proper deliberation. The session was momentarily disrupted before normal proceedings resumed. The ruling is expected to significantly alter parliamentary dynamics, with both coalitions strategizing on the next steps in the leadership battle.
