Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris visited the family of Gilbert Kinyua, who was tragically murdered in his hospital bed at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).Passaris assured the family that she would follow up on investigations and ensure compensation by KNH and the Ministry of Health.
She also called on the hospital to take swift measures to prevent future security breaches.
“KNH must take swift measures to prevent future security breaches as we anxiously await conclusive investigation and arrests of those behind the murder by DCI,” she stated.
Speaking at a media briefing, KNH Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) William Sigilali maintained that there was no evidence suggesting an outsider had entered the hospital to commit the crime.
However, he acknowledged that the murder had occurred within the hospital premises.
“Let me state that at this point, we actually do not have evidence that anybody walked in and committed the said crime. We know for a fact the patient was murdered in the ward,” Sigilali said.Kinyua had been admitted for complications related to urination before he was brutally murdered by unknown assailants.
His wife, Susan Wanjiku, described him as a calm and social man who never had conflicts with anyone.
She also revealed that another patient, whom many perceived as mentally ill, was Kinyua’s primary caregiver when she was not around.
The patient assisted him with feeding and changing, as Kinyua was too weak to move.
Wanjiku attempted to speak with patient regarding her husband’s death, but she was denied access.
This raised more concerns about the circumstances surrounding the murder, with the family demanding a thorough investigation into the shocking incident.
