Authorities have made a major breakthrough in the fight against crime with the arrest of a notorious female gangster linked to a spate of violent robberies along Mombasa Road.

The suspect, Purity Koki Makau, was tracked down and apprehended at her hideout in Nairobi’s Tassia Estate after weeks of intelligence-led investigations.

Makau, who allegedly operated as a getaway driver for a four-member gang, is believed to have played a key role in orchestrating a series of robberies targeting unsuspecting passengers.

The gang reportedly used private vehicles, including a Toyota Wish, to lure victims before robbing and abandoning them in isolated locations across Kyumbi, Mlolongo, and Sultan Hamud.

Following her arrest, Makau was arraigned alongside her alleged accomplice, Vincent Avagalwa Salano, at the Machakos Law Courts.

The two suspects pleaded not guilty to robbery with violence charges but were denied bail after the prosecution opposed their release.

The court ruled that they remain in custody at Machakos G.K. Prisons, citing their involvement in similar cases across multiple counties.

Investigators have linked the gang to at least six reported cases at Machakos Police Station, four at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices in Machakos, and several others in Mlolongo, Kyumbi, Kakamega, and Londiani.

Three recent victims reported losing significant amounts of money, amounting to over half a million shillings, in separate incidents.

Authorities believe the gang has been operating for an extended period and are intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining members.

Two suspected associates were recently arrested in Kakamega County, with additional charges tied to violent crimes, including murder.

The latest arrests mark a significant step toward dismantling criminal networks preying on innocent commuters.

Law enforcement agencies continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
