A sectionof Isiolo County residents interrupted President William Ruto’s speech during a rally on Tuesday, demanding that the head of state visit their region.
The disruption occurred after the President, while speaking at the commissioning of the tarmacking of Isiolo–Kulamawe and Kulamawe–Modogashe roads, was met with shouts from the crowd.
The residents were frustrated that, although Ruto had promised to visit Garba Tula, a neighboring town, he had not extended the same invitation to Kina, a town within Isiolo county.
The crowd’s chants became louder, urging Ruto to include their area in his visit. In response, the President paused his speech and listened to their concerns before assuring them that he would honor their request to visit the region.
“Next time I will visit Garba Tula, and please ensure you slaughter for me a cow.” He said before a section were heard shouting, “Kina!
Ruto’s visit to the North Eastern region is seen as part of his broader political engagement, ahead of the 2027 elections. His trip included launching a number of development projects aimed at improving infrastructure and services in the area. The President was accompanied by leaders from Isiolo, Wajir, Marsabit, Mandera, and Garissa counties, who joined him in celebrating the launch of the various initiatives.
The interruption, however, highlighted the residents’ desire for greater attention from the government, a sentiment that was quickly addressed by the President with his promise to visit town in the near future.
