Robert Alai has criticized Citizen TV journalists Jeff Koinange and Olive Burrows over their recent interview with Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Aden Duale.
Taking to X , Alai expressed his dissatisfaction with how the interview was conducted, calling it pedestrian and petty.
One of Alai’s main concerns was a statement made during the interview about State House being ours. He questioned what this phrase truly meant and whether it reflected inclusivity in the country’s leadership.
He also raised concerns about cultural representation in the media, asking whether Jeff Koinange speaks Kikuyu and how much local traditions are maintained in Kenyan media spaces.
Alai went further to criticize Citizen TV for airing foreign content, particularly Mexican and Indian soap operas. He questioned whether such shows, which often focus on dramatic conflicts and personal relationships, help preserve Kenya’s history and culture.
In a strong statement, Alai accused some media personalities of hypocrisy, suggesting that they fail to uphold Kenya’s cultural identity while engaging in discussions about national issues. He called for greater accountability in the media industry, arguing that journalists should be held responsible for how they shape public discourse.
