Nairobi Catholic Archbishop Phillip Anyolo recently returned what he referred to as “corruption money” received from the Kenya Kwanza government. The controversial sum was intended for the Church’s programs, but Anyolo chose to reject it, citing moral grounds and his commitment to integrity and transparency.

His decision made headlines, with many praising his courage in standing up against corruption and choosing ethical responsibility over financial gain. The archbishop’s action comes at a time when the Catholic Church and other religious institutions in Kenya have been vocal in their fight against corruption and unethical practices within the government.

However, the Archbishop’s act of rejecting the funds did not end there. In a display of solidarity with the youth, Anyolo later participated in a lively gathering with Catholic youths, where he joined them in the energetic and popular ‘Anguka Nayo’ movement, a slogan used by youth to call for accountability and reforms in the country. The event saw the Archbishop not only express his firm stance against corruption but also encourage the young people to continue pushing for change in both the church and the broader society.

His participation in the “Anguka Nayo” vibe was seen as a symbolic gesture of solidarity with young people advocating for a corruption-free Kenya. It also underscored the role of religious leaders in fostering moral values and encouraging societal change.
