The Nairobi County Assembly has approved a supplementary budget of Ksh 44.47 billion for the 2024/2025 financial year, marking an increase of Ksh 905 million from the previous budget.The new allocation will prioritize key sectors, focusing on recurrent expenses,development projects, and pending bills.
Out of the total budget, Ksh 32.39 billion has been set aside for recurrent expenditure, Ksh 12.08 billion for development initiatives, and Ksh 1.26 billion to clear pending bills.
Highlighting the county’s focus on social welfare, Ksh 400 million has been allocated to expand the school feeding program, a critical initiative aimed at addressing hunger and improving school attendance. Additionally, the health sector will receive a Ksh 300 million boost, ensuring better services for Nairobi residents.
Disaster management and emergency response have not been left behind, with Ksh 150 million allocated for disaster response efforts and Ksh 100 million for emergency relief. Environmental management has also taken center stage, with Ksh 604 million earmarked for waste management, Ksh 50 million for litter bins, and Ksh 100 million for the Green Nairobi Company, which focuses on environmental sustainability.
Other key allocations include Ksh 200 million for the Ward Development Fund to facilitate localized projects, Ksh 450 million for student bursaries, and Ksh 50 million for the drilling of boreholes to improve water access in various areas.The approval of the budget reflects
