The Kenyan government has broken its quiet on the contentious housing levy fund, releasing a stern warning to all state servants.

The Kenyan government, through the Director for Housing and Urban Development, said today, January 24, 2024, that it will use the eminent housing levy budget to build homes for all government officials who live in various local and regional areas.

The Kenyan government has announced that it will build four types of houses for civil servants as part of the four-category process: the studio, a contemporary single-story home that will be sold for Sh 680,000, the one-bedroom for Sh 1.5 million, the two-bedroom for Sh 1.980 million, and the three-bedroom for Sh 2.880 million under the affordable housing program.

Giving an insight into the basic reason for the strategic choice to build houses for civil servants, the Kenyan government has stated that the move is intended to reduce the cost of acquiring residences for civil officers while also simplifying the purchase procedure.
