The unrest was reportedly triggered by frustrations over declining academic performance under the tenure of the current principal, who joined the institution four years ago.
The students vented their anger by storming the principal’s residence, damaging his property, including his house and vehicle.
Images from the scene revealed a car with smashed windows and windscreen, while the house showed signs of stoning, with all window panes shattered.
According to reports, the situation escalated to the point where the principal narrowly avoided physical harm. Police officers were forced to intervene, firing into the air to disperse the unruly students and restore calm.
According to reports, the school’s 2024 KCSE results appear to have fueled the unrest. Despite achieving a mean grade of C (6.0618) and producing 213 students with university entry grades (C+ or higher), dissatisfaction was rife. Only one student earned an A grade out of 651 candidates, and 36 students were awarded a “Y” grade, a designation that invalidates their results—further deepening frustrations.
Just a week prior, concerned parents had stormed the school, demanding answers over the unusually high number of Y grades, a phenomenon reportedly unprecedented in the school’s history.
Management said the closure of the school was aimed at preventing further escalation and providing police with time to address the underlying issues.
Parents and education officials are calling for immediate interventions to restore confidence in the school’s administration and academic standards.
