In a heartbreaking turn of events, a woman from Nyandarua County, Kenya, has been plunged into unspeakable grief after losing her only remaining child to severe burns. The tragedy comes just months after she buried her husband and two sons, who perished in a horrific road accident last year.

Mary Wanjiku, 42, had been trying to rebuild her life following the devastating loss of her family. Her sole source of comfort and strength was her nine-year-old daughter, Faith Njeri, who survived the accident. Faith had been her mother’s pillar of hope as they navigated the difficult road to healing.

However, their fragile hope was shattered when a fire broke out in their modest home in Ol Kalou. According to neighbors, the blaze, believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, engulfed the house in the middle of the night while the mother and daughter were asleep. Mary managed to escape with minor injuries, but Faith suffered extensive burns over 70% of her body.

Despite being rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, the young girl succumbed to her injuries after a week of fighting for her life. Doctors described her condition as critical, citing the severity of the burns and the complications that followed.

Speaking to reporters, a visibly distraught Mary struggled to express her anguish. “I don’t know why all this is happening. I have lost everything,” she whispered, tears streaming down her face.

Local leaders and well-wishers have rallied around Mary, calling for community support to help her rebuild her life. The village chief, Samuel Kariuki, urged residents to offer both emotional and financial assistance to the grieving mother, describing her ordeal as “a tragedy no one should endure alone.”

The tragedy has sparked renewed conversations about road safety and fire prevention measures in rural homes, as the community mourns with Mary in her darkest hour.
