“I am sad. Judy joined FIDA as Head of Litigation when I was an employee under the Litigation Department. She was my immediate boss until I left to join ICJ. She rose to be the leading family lawyer in Kenya from her work at FIDA,” Mabona wrote.
Thongori, a trailblazer in family law and an advocate for gender equality, inspired many with her dedication to justice. Mabona credited her as a mentor and a go-to expert for family law cases, often referring clients to her for assistance.
Reflecting on her legacy, Mabona described Thongori’s death as a profound loss not only to the legal fraternity but also to the many lives she touched through her advocacy and mentorship.
“This is really sad. I am mourning,” she concluded, echoing the sentiments of countless others mourning the loss of a legal giant whose influence will endure for years to come.
