A dramatic incident unfolded along a busy road when a police officer stopped a motorist and allegedly demanded a bribe of KSh 15,000. Eyewitnesses reported that the officer entered the motorist’s car, refusing to let the driver leave until the money was paid.
The confrontation drew the attention of a concerned citizen who recognized the officer and promptly contacted the Officer Commanding Station (OCS). Upon learning about the situation, the OCS dispatched a duty officer to the scene to intervene.
However, the attempt to resolve the matter took an unexpected turn. The officer demanding the bribe reportedly turned violent, assaulting his colleague and accusing him of “ruining his work.” Eyewitnesses said the intervention officer sustained minor injuries during the scuffle.
The incident attracted a crowd, with many expressing outrage over the behavior of the officer demanding the bribe. Several onlookers called for immediate action against the rogue officer, decrying the culture of corruption within law enforcement.
Following the altercation, the OCS ordered the arrest of the offending officer. He was taken to the police station for questioning and is expected to face disciplinary action. The motorist, who had been stranded during the ordeal, was later allowed to proceed without further interference.
The incident highlights ongoing challenges in addressing corruption within the police force. Members of the public have urged the authorities to take swift and decisive action to restore trust in law enforcement.
