Former Mp for Borabu constituency, Kisii county Hon. Ben Momanyi, has endorsed retired Chief Justice David Maraga for president come 2027. According to Momanyi, Maraga is the suitable candidate for president from Gusii land and not former cabinet secretary for ministry of interior Hon. Fred Matiang’i. In his statement which has been highlighted by Gusii Digital News on their official Facebook page, Momanyi has said Matiang’i has dark past compared to Maraga therefore for him, Maraga stands a chance to get his support.
This information has attracted mixed reactions from netizens as it can be clearly seen on the official comments section of Gusii Digital News where this story has been published. A faction of Kenyans online especially those ones who comes from Gusii land have gone ahead supporting his idea while others have differed with him, saying Matiang’i stands a chance to be elected president as compared to Maraga.
A netizen identified as Kefa Ongori has commented saying,” I thought some leaders like Ben momanyi can give directions to people of kisii at large but unfortunately he can’t because this bet politics of nyamira. Matiangi is not going for governor nyamira but president of Kenya. Where he will compete with other people from other communities including the current president. So if you start comparing Maraga and Matiang’i, Ben you don’t know what you are saying. It’s not kisii people who said Matiang’i for president, and remember they know Maraga but they didn’t propose him. So people of kisii let us do constructive politics or else we remain where we are.” He wrote.
