Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has firmly dismissed allegations that recent police summonses issued to several politicians were politically motivated. Addressing the media in Nairobi on January 12, 2025, Muturi emphasized that the summonses are part of standard legal procedures aimed at maintaining law and order, and are not influenced by political considerations.

“The enforcement of the law is a fundamental duty of our security agencies,” Muturi stated. “Any individual, regardless of their political affiliation, is subject to the law. These summonses are issued based on evidence and the need to uphold justice, not due to political pressure or bias.”

This clarification comes amid rising tensions following a series of abductions and unexplained deaths that have unsettled the nation. Muturi has been vocal in criticizing the government’s handling of these incidents, expressing concern over the persistence of such occurrences despite previous commitments to eradicate them.

“We vowed that we would never, under our watch, condone or allow such acts,” Muturi remarked, referencing promises made during the last election campaign to end disappearances and extrajudicial killings. He further revealed a personal ordeal, disclosing that his own son was abducted while he was in office, an experience that has intensified his resolve to address these issues.

Muturi’s recent statements underscore his commitment to ensuring that security agencies operate without political interference and adhere strictly to the rule of law. He called upon all citizens to support the government’s efforts in maintaining peace and security, urging collaboration to address the challenges facing the nation.

“The government cannot be excused for abdicating its duty of protecting the lives and property of the people of Kenya,” Muturi asserted, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency in addressing the country’s security concerns.
