Mumias East MP Peter Salasya was forced into an unexpected confrontation with residents of Kakamega Town during a grassroots mobilization event for the End Abductions KE campaign.

The protestors blocked Salasya’s vehicle to demand that he take their concerns seriously and send urgent messages to key government officials.

The escalating cases of abductions, which have instilled fear and uncertainty, particularly among the youth, have become a major issue in Kakamega.

The protestors were clear in their demands: they wanted their voices heard by top officials, including President William Ruto and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah.

As Salasya attempted to engage with the demonstrators, they insisted that he send a message to President.

“Ambia Kasongo Kitu,” the crowd urged the MP to relay their frustration directly to the president.

In response, Salasya, trying to quell the tension, said: “Kasongo achanya na vijana”

However, the protestors were not satisfied with this response and continued pressing Salasya to also send a message to Ichung’wah.

They loudly chanted, “Ambia Ichung’wah Kitu.” Under the mounting pressure, Salasya, visibly unsettled, responded by calling Ichung’wah “mjinga,” a remark that only added fuel to the already heated situation.

The incident quickly garnered public attention and media coverage. It points the urgent need for elected leaders to address the rising abductions and protect the community. The End Abductions KE campaign continues to gain momentum as more citizens join the call for justice and accountability, demanding swift action from their leaders.
