Tension has risen after Kimani Ichung’wah harshly criticized Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya during the funeral of Moses Wetang’ula’s mother in Bungoma. The conflict began when Natembeya used the event to urge President William Ruto to stop abductions allegedly linked to state security agencies. In response, Ichung’wah accused Natembeya of being responsible for similar incidents during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s era when he served as a Regional Commissioner. Ichung’wah’s harsh words included calling Natembeya a “shame,” sparking outrage.
Angry Kikuyu residents living in Trans Nzoia have now come to Natembeya’s defense. They criticized Ichung’wah, telling him to address issues in his own constituency instead of targeting their governor. The residents emphasized that they voted for Natembeya and expressed confidence in his leadership. They urged politicians to stop using public events like funerals to exchange insults, which they said disrespects mourners and distracts from important issues.
The confrontation has highlighted growing political tensions, with both leaders drawing support from their respective camps. Residents of Trans Nzoia insist that Ichung’wah’s remarks were uncalled for and demand that he shows respect to their elected leader. They called for peace and unity to focus on development instead of divisive politics.
