Fred Matiang’i’s potential bid for the 2027 presidency has gained momentum, with the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) identifying him as a top contender. According to Nyambega Gisesa, UPA’s national chairperson, the party conducted a nationwide opinion poll that highlighted Matiang’i as one of Kenya’s most popular leaders. This poll has bolstered confidence in his viability as a presidential candidate, particularly within the Gusii region, where UPA enjoys strong support.

The opinion poll, pivotal in shaping UPA’s strategy, revealed widespread recognition of Matiang’i’s leadership qualities and his ability to unite diverse communities. Following these findings, UPA has intensified efforts to mobilize grassroots support, scheduling elections across the country starting February 2027. Gisesa emphasized that the party is committed to ensuring Matiang’i receives adequate backing to vie for the presidency.

The poll results also guided UPA’s decision to consolidate its efforts within the Gusii region rather than seeking external coalitions, focusing instead on building a robust and independent campaign structure centered around Matiang’i’s leadership.
