He is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the President William Ruto’s ascension to power in 2022. Before that, it all appeared over for Court of Appeal judge Prof Joel Ngugi after his rejection by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2021.
Prof. Ngugi joined the judiciary over one decade ago after being appointed by Uhuru as High Court judge.
In 2021, following the interviews conducted by the Judicial Service Commission, Prof. Ngugi was promoted to become Court of Appeal judge.
However, President Kenyatta declined to formally appoint him to the position on grounds that the judge’s integrity was in question.
But in a quick comeback, in 2022, just one day after Ruto’s rise to the presidency, he appointed Prof. Ngugi and three others to become Court of Appeal judge.
An academic academic powerhouse, Prof. Ngugi is a holder of a PhD in law from the prestigious Harvard University.
Prof. Ngugi graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi in 1996.
Before being appointed to the bench, Prof. Ngugi had a successful career in the world of academics, rising to the position of professor at the University of Washington.
