According to Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s anxieties and greed led to his collapse and finally his downfall from Kenya Kwanza administration.
Senator Cheruiyot told TV47’s Elizabeth Mutuku that during his term as second-in-command, Gachagua couldn’t stand seeing any other politician closer to President William Ruto than himself.
It has been reported that over 90% of MPs and legislators from the Mount Kenya region favoured Prof. Kithure Kindiki over Gachagua when President Ruto was selecting his running mate in the lead-up to the 2022 General Election.
According to Senator Cheruiyot, Gachagua developed these fears as a result, which put him at odds with almost every member of the Kenya Kwanza Coalition.
According to Senator Cheruiyot, another incident that put Gachagua in a precarious situation was when Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro began travelling the nation with other MPs. According to Cheruiyot, Gachagua interpreted this as blatant disobedience.
Cheruiyot further charged that Gachagua and his supporters were exploiting the nationwide Gen Z anti-government demonstrations to accomplish their own self-serving goals.
“The plan of those politicians who took advantage of genuine Gen Z protests was to invade Parliament building, burn it and then invoke Kenyans’ emotions, and to eventually overthrow the government.”
