Samson Cherargei, the Nandi County Senator, has expressed concern over the increasing cases of youth abductions in Kenya, urging law enforcement agencies to take swift action to identify those responsible.

This comes after Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome distanced the police from involvement in the incidents.

Through a statement on his official X account, the senator called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Police Service (NPS) to explain the abductions and reveal the individuals behind them. He questioned their ability to address the matter effectively.

The senator, recalling a past personal ordeal involving what he described as a government-orchestrated abduction, shared that the experience was deeply distressing. He emphasized that no one should endure such trauma and expressed solidarity with the families of the missing individuals, especially during the holiday season.

He further raised concerns about a pattern among the victims, noting their use of Safaricom lines and urging investigations into this possible connection.

As a vocal supporter of the Kenya Kwanza administration, the senator also advised citizens to approach their criticism of the government constructively and respectfully. He encouraged public discourse that avoids personal attacks, highlighting the importance of meaningful and respectful engagement.

Meanwhile, Inspector General Koome clarified that the police’s role is limited to lawful arrests, emphasizing that abductions are criminal acts. This statement follows growing pressure from families, political leaders, and concerned citizens demanding answers regarding the youth who disappeared, some of whom had shared posts critical of President William Ruto online.
