“My name is Mercy Wanza, and I have missed my father every day of my life.”
These words reflect the deep yearning of a 33-year-old Kenyan woman seeking to reunite with her long-lost father, Charles Oyaro Areba.
Born in 1991, Mercy was separated from her father when she was just a baby after her parents, Charles and Zipporah Nduta, parted ways.
Charles, who was a student at the University of Nairobi’s Kabete Campus at the time, moved on with his studies, leaving Mercy and her mother behind.
Zipporah chose not to remarry, dedicating her life to raising her daughter. However, the absence of her father left a significant void in Mercy’s life.
“It has not been easy growing up without my dad. My education suffered, and I have always felt incomplete,” Mercy said, her voice heavy with emotion.
Now preparing for her KCSE exams, she admits that her father’s absence has been a constant source of pain.
Mercy has pieced together some details about her father’s background, hoping they will lead her to him.
Charles hails from Kitutu Masaba and attended Kabaa High School. During his school holidays, he often visited his uncle, Masika, who was an OCS (Officer Commanding Station) in Machakos.
“I just want to find him. I need to know my father,” Mercy shared. “It’s not just about filling the empty space he left; it’s about finding my roots and completing my story.”
