Vihiga County Referral Hospital (VCRH) medical superintendent Dr Victor Zimbulu is fighting for his life in hospital after a night attack by unknown people.

Dr Zimbulu was going home in Gambogi area when the gang allegedly armed with machetes and blunt objects, attacked him. The stabbed him multiple times, leaving him with serious head injuries in an attack that sent shockwaves across the area. The gangsters then escaped leaving the victim unconscious.

The medical superintendent was rushed to the nearby health facility and later transferred to the Agha Khan Hospital in Kisumu where he is currently admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Zimbulu was reportedly living alone at the time of the incident. The motive of the attack is yet to be established.

Confirming the incident, Vihiga Police boss assured that police would conduct a thorough investigation, unearth the perpetrators and motive behind the attack.

So far no one has been arrested following the attack, but the police have started their investigations to bring the criminals to book.

Residents in the county have decried the rise of crime in the recent past. They pointed finger at security officers in the region, accusing them of doing little to curb the menace.
