Raila Odinga, Kenya’s nominee for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship, traveled to Chad on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. Chad’s President, Mahamat Idriss Déby, welcomed him. Raila is competing to succeed Moussa Faki, who is leaving the seat in February 2025. During his visit, Raila discussed significant topics that he intends to address if elected AUC chairperson.

He stated that Africa requires improved infrastructure, increased trade between African countries, and easier means for people and products to move across the continent, including the facilitation of visa applications.He stated that for Africa to be strong, it must come together. Leaders and citizens must collaborate to break down barriers and make Africa a force on the world stage.

He also discussed his vision for the kids. He believes that young people will bring about fresh ideas and reforms in Africa. Raila envisions vibrant cities in which young entrepreneurs combine technology and creativity to establish successful businesses.

Raila’s visit comes immediately before a major event, the Mjadala Afrika debate, which will take place on Friday, December 13, 2024, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This discussion will allow Raila and the other contenders to clarify their proposals for Africa’s future.
