Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) has announced the appointment of Alfred Agoi Masadia as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Agoi’s appointment to the board comes after his predecessor Migos Ogamba was appointed Cabinet Secretary for education months ago.
In notice communicating the appointment, KenGen CEO Peter Njenga described Agoi as a distinguished leader with an illustrious career spanning years in business, strategic management, and leadership.
“Agoi is a seasoned and recognised leader, a self-driven professional with over 22 years of experience in business and strategic management and leadership,” Njenga said.
Agoi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Government and a masterâs in business administration (Strategic Management) from the University of Nairobi.
Previously, he worked as Marketing Director at Ideal Office Products Limited and Chief Executive Officer at Kingsway Business Systems Limited.
Agoi served as the Member of Parliament for Sabatia Constituency for two terms between 2013 and 2022.
During his tenure in Parliament, he played pivotal roles in several Parliamentary Committees, including the Budget Appropriations Committee, Health Committee, and Special Funds Accounts Committee.
“With his wealth of experience as a strategic leader and a public policy, and governance administration practitioner, the company will benefit greatly from his expertise as he leads the board in the execution of its oversight mandate of guiding Kengen as the leading geothermal producer in Africa,” Njenga added.
The CEO added that the new board chair is committed to executing KenGen’s 2024â2034 strategy which is said to be instrumental in enhancing the companyâs provision of sustainable, reliable energy to power Kenyaâs growth and economic transformation.
The strategy aims to reinforce KenGenâs role in providing sustainable electric energy to drive Kenyaâs economic transformation. With his vast expertise and commitment to service, Agoi is expected to play a critical role in guiding the Boardâs oversight mandate and fostering innovation in energy production
