Former Limuru Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Mwathi was reportedly abducted at gunpoint after attending a funeral in Limuru on Wednesday. The shocking incident happened in broad daylight, leaving residents and leaders in fear and disbelief.
According to witnesses, Mwathi was forced into a car by armed men shortly after leaving the funeral. His family and friends raised the alarm, fearing for his safety as no communication was made by the abductors.
However, in a surprising turn of events, Mwathi was released later that night. Sources say he was dumped along the Southern Bypass in Nairobi, miles away from where he was taken. Fortunately, the former MP was unharmed.
“We are grateful that he is safe and physically okay,” a family spokesperson said. “This was a terrifying experience, but we are relieved he has been reunited with us.”
Details about the motive behind the abduction remain unclear, and no group or individual has claimed responsibility. Security agencies have launched an investigation to identify the culprits and uncover their intentions.
Residents in Limuru expressed shock over the incident, calling on authorities to ensure justice is served. “This is unacceptable. If a leader can be kidnapped like this, what about ordinary citizens?” one local resident asked.
Mwathi, who served as Limuru MP between 2007 and 2017, is a respected figure in the community. His sudden abduction has raised serious concerns about safety and security in the region.
Police have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue. They also called on anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
