Kakamega town was shaken by a heartbreaking case of domestic violence that led to the deaths of a couple, leaving their family and community in mourning.

The incident unfolded when Peter Karungani, 47, allegedly attacked his wife after accusing her of infidelity based on WhatsApp messages found on her phone. Tragically, Peter later took his own life.

Their 23-year-old daughter, Laura Karungani, vividly recounted the events of that fateful night, marking a chilling sequence of events that will forever haunt her.

According to Laura, the evening began with heated arguments between her parents. Her father, consumed by suspicion and anger, convened an unexpected family meeting.

“Baba aliniamuru nisome ujumbe uliokua katika simu ya mama,” Laura said, her voice breaking as she narrated the ordeal.

Overwhelmed with fear and pain, she refused her father’s request, instead urging him to forgive her mother for any perceived wrongdoing.

As the family retired to their rooms, the night’s silence was pierced by her mother’s desperate screams. “Baba ananiua!” were the words that drove Laura to run outside in terror, seeking help from neighbors.

When they returned, the horror that awaited them was unimaginable. Laura’s mother lay lifeless, a victim of her husband’s unrelenting rage. Peter, overcome with remorse, had taken his own life in the aftermath of the attack.

This tragic loss has left Kakamega residents grappling with shock and sorrow.

“This is a wake-up call for all of us,” one neighbor said. “We need to speak up when we see signs of trouble in families and offer help where we can.”
