Former news anchor Salim Swaleh, once a celebrated figure in Kenya’s media circles, has made a heartfelt plea on social media, expressing his desire to return to work.
On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Salim took to his X account to share a nostalgic post, writing:
“I miss putting on my suits and reporting to work every morning. Nipeeni kazi jameni.”
The former journalist tagged prominent media houses including KTN News, NTV, Citizen TV, Mediamax, and TV47, as well as the State House, in a clear indication of his willingness to resume his career in either journalism or public service.
Salim Swaleh had left the newsroom after receiving a high-profile government appointment under Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi’s office.
However, his stint in public service was short-lived. Reports emerged linking him to a scandal involving an alleged attempt to defraud a foreign investor. This led to his dismissal, marking a dramatic turn in his otherwise illustrious career.
Known for his suave demeanor and sharp reporting skills, Swaleh was a household name in the media. His appeal for work is a stark reminder of the challenges public figures often face after falling from grace.
His post has elicited mixed reactions online. While some fans sympathize and encourage him to rise again, others are more critical, questioning the circumstances that led to his job loss.
It remains to see whether he will return to the industry that once celebrated him. Only time will tell if this plea lands him a second chance.
