Cecily Mbarire, the governor of Embu, criticized her county’s citizens for their foolish behavior in heckling President William Ruto during a Sunday church service.
President Ruto was giving his speech at the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Mukangu in Embu when the crowd started yelling “Ruto Must Go” chants. Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were present, though the latter was not given an opportunity to speak to the crowd.
The governor, who was clearly irritated, criticized her constituents, calling the heckling impolite and disrespectful to the presidency.
We want our markets to be improved tomorrow, but we can not demand progress while we are jeering at the head of state,” she bemoaned.
Governor Mbarire emphasized in her remarks the value of showing civility and respect to elected officials when attending public events.
We have never gone so far as to heckle the President, even when we are upset. The speaker seemed to be referring to former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua when she said, “We have been taught abusive politics of hate by leaders who want us to lose our track.”
She also urged residents to use constructive dialogue instead of disruptive behavior to voice their complaints.
“I am pleading with you as a veteran politician we are not helping ourselves with unnecessary political battles. I know what I am doing when you see me remaining silent in this government. Other places like Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu and Kirinyanga have tarmacked roads, where are ours?” she asked the residents.
When they need development, she emphasized, they cannot be forced to leave the government.
“We can not evaluate ourselves against other areas that have made progress. Without any progress, we cannot afford to be out of the government for three years,” she said.
The public’s discontent with the Kenya Kwanza Government prompted her statement. Now, members of the public have responded by jeering and heckling Ruto’s government officials.
“The same treatment he did to our former president amount of insults is the same he’s going malipo Ni apa duniani.” Davie said.
“Nothing hurts like meeting your Ex in a territory they are loved.” Pascal said.
“Who is she to lecture the electorate,,,,2027 hata yeye aende nyumbani………wametuzoea sana…..” John Davis said.
