Former President Uhuru Kenyatta received a warm welcome in Embu County during the consecration and installation of Bishop Peter Kimani Ndung’u. The event, which took place under the leadership of Nyeri Archbishop Anthony Muheria, turned lively when Uhuru’s name was mentioned, sparking loud cheers and a standing ovation from the congregation.

In contrast, the atmosphere was noticeably quiet when Archbishop Muheria mentioned President William Ruto’s name during the introductions. The sharp difference in reactions highlighted the crowd’s enthusiasm for Uhuru, who appeared to retain significant support in the region despite being out of office.

The event brought together political and religious leaders, including President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who both attended the ceremony. Their attendance marked a rare public meeting between the two leaders after Gachagua’s impeachment and replacement by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki.

Uhuru’s reception at the event demonstrates his enduring popularity in parts of Central Kenya, particularly Embu, a region that has historically played a key role in shaping national politics. As the crowd’s reaction suggested, many residents still hold the former president in high regard, making him a potential key player in future political realignments.
